Hand printing in Delhi

Last week we were lucky enough to visit Delhi, I have been travelling to India for years now and each time it never ceases to amaze me. A country so diverse and so colourful and enchanting, full of history and poverty. I do love India and thank her for allowing us an adventure with every trip if only we could stay longer.

Our first Tuk Tuk ride and we met a nice fellow that didn't mind getting his photo taken, with so many tourists visiting India these guys have become a tourist attraction themselves let alone where they take you!

First stop is our hand-screen printing factory where we watched our new table linen designs being made into screens, our colours being mixed and matched and then the first samples being hand printed - I love this, seeing the designs come to life right in front of my eyes!

A lot of interest in this fella's shoes - covered in tape they where a good way to not slip off the printing table!

I will show you more images of them hand-printing our product when the collection has been ordered.  I'd like to thank the printing factory for their time and their patience teaching me every time I visit. As well as always going to a lot of trouble to print samples for me as I arrive - timing wise we sent them the artwork on Wed from Melbourne and on Friday we where in Delhi watching them print! Remarkable.

Our new Ena table linen has started!

Our new Ena napkins and tapas Napkins being printed - just like we did at uni - although on a bigger scale and these fellows have amazing skills to match up the repeat on this one!
Hanging out to dry
Ena Olive - Tablerunners drying - soon to go to new homes!
Placemats drying - ready to be cut up and stitched into individual mats.

I thought I would share with you a sneak peak at our Ena tablelinen being hand screen-printed - it is great to see each product being made and I am getting images daily from the factory - I am very excited as the tablelinen is a special range for us to celebrate our anniversary collection for our 10th birthday!

New AURA Table linen development for Summer 2011

Excuse my rough photography but I thought I would take some happy snaps of our new developments that have arrived from India - remember the screen printing mill! Well the samples have come out fabulous and I am really excited to be working on a new collection of table linen after so long. Our new range has been inspired by our AURA bed linen designs and is looking a treat! Let me know what you think!

Hand screen printing

Hundreds of used screens - if they are not used for reprints they re use the metal frames by re stretching them.
All the screens are hand drawn for colour separation - this is a very unique skill to be able to create the screens - they have to recreate each tiny mark and line on artwork sent to them. They could do it by photograph but say that these guys skills are so good that they prefer to continue to hand do it - brilliant!

One of the many screens that where made for our new table linen sampling.
Colour matching pantones!! Yes believe it or not and they do a fantastic job getting the colours right.
And finally the hand Screen printing in action.

I thought I would show you some images from my visit to a hand screen printing factory in Delhi. It was an interesting day to see that they are still hand printing basically how we did at Uni but on a huge scale.
These guys have some amazing skills and will be hopefully printing our new table linen collection for Summer 2011!
